Eric Pearson grew up in Salt Lake City Utah and Denver Colorado. When the U.S. Air Force brought him to George A.F.B. in 1976 he discovered the unique qualities of the High Desert and chose it as his home. He left the Air Force in 1979 and began working for Victor Valley College in 1981 shortly after graduation coordinating the activities in the College's Performing Arts Center. This is the vocation that will carry him until retirement, sometime in the far distant future.
Eric was introduced to the ideas found in metaphysical philosophy by a high school friend. He started to attended the Unity Church of Denver during his senior year of high school and continued to read literature suggested by Unity for years after leaving Denver. Periodicals such as Guideposts and Daily Word in addition to books by Sue Sikiing, James Dillet Freeman, and Catherine Ponder. Tape series by Eric Butterworth and Donald Curtis also added to his study of metaphysical thinking.
In the early 90s he began attending the High Desert Church of Religious Science in Apple Valley at the encouragement of his mother in law who was becoming very active with the church. The Science of Mind and Unity taught with such similarities that returning to weekly church services was a pleasure. Rev. John St. Dennis and then Rev. Irma Plate held the pulpit during this time and attending with his wife and children was a wonderful opportunity to share during busy times.
After the transition of his mother in law, his family found that attending services was somewhat straining. Setting foot inside the physical structure was very emotional and somewhat distracting to the lessons being presented so once again he stopped attending traditional service and relied on books and tapes for inspiration.
Many years without attending church will tend to cause a void. Hearing inspirational messages on a consistent basis helps to keep focus on the philosophy and assists in the everyday challenges one may face. Reading and listening to tapes didnt happen as often as it should so when a friend told him of a vibrant and energetic new minister at the church, Eric tried attending once again. The wit and wisdom of Reverend David Phears rekindled the desire to attend services and Erics wife found that the emptiness once experienced in the physical church structure was no longer a presence.
Once again his family began attending church with enough regularity to become involved in the Youth Church and began to rekindle the feeling of community. The teaching style of Reverend David was fresh and fun with a lot of food for thought.
When the Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Ministry (now Fellowship) was created, Eric joined in happily. With such a wonderful community of positive and energetic people to associate with, there was no question that this was where growing and learning would be a total pleasure.
