Business Meeting Minutes
February 17, 2004

Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Fellowship
Organizational/Business Meeting
Thursday, February 17, 2005

Call to order: 6:30 p.m.

Present: Kristi Frodesen, Pat Alice, Carol Stevens, Sue Wilkin, Cindy Elliott, Cheryl Colvin and Rev. David Phears.

Visioning: Rev. David lead us in an opening visioning for greater abundance for our church, encouraging us to draw upon our unique strengths and talents to bring this about.

Approval of Minutes: Cheryl Colvin moved to approve the minutes for the January 20th meeting. Pat Alice seconded, and the motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report: The current balance in the PSF account, after Rev. David’s salary has been paid for February, is $1,002.46, of which $442.01 is from adult and $560.45 from youth. Sue has put together a 2004 Financial Report showing our yearly income as $38,028.54, the expenses for our first year of $36,270.05, and an ending balance of $1,758.49. If you are interested, you can go to the web site to see the exact details.

Correspondence: We received a letter from the State of California Franchise Tax Board formally declaring Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Ministry as a tax-exempt organization. Chioma Alozie has been a wonderful asset to our church family and did an enormous amount of free legal work to bring this about. We are all very grateful to her for everything she has done.

Old Business:
Our Sliding Scale Counseling Center and Tutoring Service plan is in the works. As you know, Pat Alice has volunteered to be the supervisor and has several volunteer interns ready to go. We also have several teachers who will head up the tutoring portion, along with whoever else volunteers to do the many necessary things it will take to be successful.

Facility. We will need a location that affords closed-door privacy in order to conduct the counseling. Since Donna Mass has decided to let go of her business location in Apple Valley, we need to find another place. We discussed possible locations for this venture, including Anthony Chambers’ location and where Steve Elliott works. Those will be checked out this week. We are hoping for a situation where we can give the person a tax write-off in lieu of rent.

Business Plan. Steve Elliott has made contact with his friend and will set up a meeting with him and several of our members to explore this idea.

Classes and Seminars. We discussed the prospect of offering seminars, training and classes to foster care parents. We intend to put a proposal together, possibly a 15-minute promotional CD, and contact the various County agencies that license foster care parents. We know that the parents are required to take ongoing training and we have many in our group who could contribute to this project, having done this already. The working title is Better Lives for Busy People. We are forming a committee to formulate this plan.

New Business:

Guest Speakers. We discussed how best to fill the pulpit on those occasions that Rev. David is gone on Sunday. Last Sunday Kristi Frodesen did a wonderful job filling in and this Sunday Pat Alice promises to do the same. We have many contacts outside of our fellowship and many within who would like to share their experience of this philosophy. We will get the word out to some of the students of ministry who might like the opportunity to practice their speaking skills on us. Any of you who would also like to try your hand at it, let us know and we’ll put you on the list. Those within the fellowship are doing it as a love offering and we are hoping to solicit the students on the same basis, with the exception of maybe a motel stay if they come from a distance, and a nice lunch afterward.

Name Change: We found that changing the name from Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Ministry to Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Fellowship does have consequences, since the former is our legal name. We have determined that adding the following blurb to all our documents will alleviate any confusion and/or problems with the name: “Ponderosa SAGE Fellowship, a Division of Ponderosa SAGE Ministry”.

Community Outreach: We decided to compute the amount of 10% of each week’s donations, keeping a running total, and at our next business meeting on 3/17/05 donate that amount to whoever we decide to receive our tithe, rather than keeping it at a specific sum each month.

Adopt-A-Month Rent Plan: One of the ideas that emerged out of our business meeting was the suggestion of individual members opting to adopt a month and pay the rent for the facility we enjoy. This amounts to $78 for a 4-week month and $97 in a 5-week month. Cheryl for January; Mikala Pornelos for February; Sue Wilkin for March; Cindy & Steve Elliott for April; Pat Alice for May and Kristi & Lowell Frodesen for June. That means our rent is paid through June of this year. If any of you feel so moved, see Cheryl Colvin for details.

New SAGE meetings: Members have requested a return to the SAGE meetings where we just have fun and fellowship. The next one will be on Friday, March 4, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Cheryl Colvin and Pat Alice. There will be a movie shown. Bring food and plan to have a wonderful time.

Rev. David’s Pre-Spring Inner Cleaning Program: The dates for this program are as follows: Starting Tuesday, 3-1, Thursday, 3-3, Tuesday, 3-8, Thursday, 3-10 and Wednesday, 3-16 to be held at Rev. David’s home from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For additional details, check out the information table at the back of the church.

We adjourned the meeting with a closing prayer by Rev. David at 8:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Carol Stevens
