Business Meeting Minutes
January 20, 2005

Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Ministry
Organizational/Business Meeting
Thursday, January 20, 2005

Call to order: 6:30 p.m.

Present: Kristi Frodesen, Donna Mass, Pat Alice, Carol Stevens, Michelle Phears, Sue Wilkin, Julie McNeil, Cheryl Colvin.

Visioning: Michelle Phears lead us in an opening visioning for greater abundance for our church. Afterward, we all shared what came through for us.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes for 10/14, 11/11 and 12/9/2004 business meetings were read. Cheryl Colvin moved to approve, Julie McNeil seconded, and the motion passed. Eric Pearson has asked that we e-mail all minutes to him, current and past, for him to archive in the web site so that we can retain them for ready access.

Treasurer’s Report: The current balance in the PSF account is $818.94, which is made up of $335.44 from adult and $483.50 from youth. Sue has made copies of all checks given by the partners in 2004 and is working on a Quick Books system so that we can give out reports for tax purposes. This may take a little while.

Correspondence: Chioma did all the necessary forms for the Franchise Tax Board. We received a notice that one form needed to be redone. She is taking care of that.

Old Business:
1. Long-term solutions to money issues:
Our current monthly expenses include Minister’s salary, $400 for the weekly radio show, and approximately $80 a month for the rental to the school. Two of our partners have individually paid the rent for January and February. There was a suggestion of “adopt a month” wherein individual partners would sign up to pay for a month rental expense. We have already had two ongoing in-house fundraisers that have been very successful, the personalized mugs with PSM logo, and recently the blue t-shirts with the 2004 and 2005 slogans on the back. Our partners are very generous and we are very grateful for those who have supported these ventures. However, we recognize the need to go outside of our membership to bring in more income for our church. We brought up ideas of things we could do which would assist the community at large and bring in added income to the church. Some of the ideas generated are as follows:
Tutoring Services
Gift and Book Store
Cookbook
Casino night. Kristi will be in charge of this. More information to come.
Classes and one-day seminars. These might be parenting classes or something similar.
Radio show donations. Add a tag line announcement to the radio show giving listeners the opportunity to donate to us, and we will send a tape of the church service or the radio show
Other church info. Contact other larger churches and see what they have done to increase their membership
Sliding Scale Counseling Center. This would entail Pat Alice volunteering her time and supervisory expertise and utilizing volunteer interns to do counseling for the public on a sliding-scale basis. This would be conducted at Donna Mass’ location in Apple Valley. The money raised would be used to pay rent to Donna, and the rest donated to the church.
Business Plan. Eric and Pat are going to contact Steve Elliott’s friend who has business partners that are interested investors. We will explore that.

2. Sundance School: After much reevaluation, Pat Alice suggested we keep the Sundance School and PSF separate entities to avoid any possible conflict or dissention. Donna moved to do so and Pat seconded the motion. It carried.

3. Angel Committee: There was also a good deal of discussion regarding starting an “angel” committee of volunteers who would do outreach not only for our own partners/members, but also for those who listen to the radio show and cannot attend. Pat will make a list of those interested.

4. Name change: Sue will call Chioma and find out if there is any legal consequence to our changing the name from Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Ministry to Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Fellowship, as well as having our motto be: “A Spiritual Choice Community.”

5. UCRS Affiliation: We are still reviewing the materials, but with the exception of the requirement that upon becoming affiliated, we tithe to UCRS, we have no problem with any other requirements.

6. Community outreach this month: Due to our current financial situation, we will confine our outreach this month to our individual donations of food to Kids Repair.

7. Anniversary Party: This was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who participated.

8. Continued Celebration of Martin Luther King: Many suggestions came forth of how we might continue the celebration throughout the month of January. Eric will call Charles to see if he wants to read one of the speeches.

9. Two substitutes for February: Rev. David will be unable to lead the services on 2/13/05 and 2/20/05. We will have substitute speakers on those dates.

We adjourned the meeting with a closing prayer by Pat Alice at 9:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Carol Stevens
