Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Fellowship

Organizational/Business Meeting

Sunday, July 30, 2006

Call to order: 12:45 p.m.

Present: Sue Wilkin, Cindy and Steve Elliott, Kristi and Lowell Frodesen, Pat Alice, Donna Mass, Carol Stevens, Harriet Baker, Caroline Coleman, Cheryl Colvin, Milledge and Yolande Culbreth, Doris Engelhaupt, Gerardo and Lyn Hernandez, Julie and Michael McNeil, Eric and Leandra Pearson, Grace Pierce, Judy St. Clair, and Rose Marie Velarde.

Opening Prayer: Rev. Theressa Shields led us in an opening prayer to raise our consciousness for the meeting to follow.

Approval of minutes: Cheryl Colvin moved to accept the minutes for the May 16th meeting as they stand. Sue Wilkin seconded the motion, and it passed.

Treasurer’s report: The total balance in the Ponderosa SAGE Fellowship accounts is $5,085.87 made up of $3,605.43 in the adult account, $1,480.43 in the youth account, and $562 in the account restricted for our new church home. The annual insurance payment of $1,028 is due 8/31/06 and the radio payment is also due, while all other bills have been paid.

Correspondence: We received a letter from Jill Iris of UCRS notifying PSF that she is a certified, vision facilitator. We may follow up on that at a later time. We also received the previously mentioned annual insurance bill.

Old Business:

1. CCC Update: The program is going great. Since Pat just completed the required semi-annual interim report due to the grantor, California Endowment, she took this opportunity to update all present on CCC’s recent accomplishments. CCC is now open two evenings a week, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the High Desert Domestic Violence Center, and is currently treating 45 clients. Most clients pay from $1 to $10, but it can go as high as $45. All of that money goes to the PSF. CCC has increased its intern staff to 12 with several more waiting to come on board. In addition to the individual counseling, several new groups have been instituted to address common issues and move clients from the waiting list. Among them are, teen group, middle-teen group, women’s group, and a Spanish-speaking group,. Sue Wilkin will give us a total of money received from the CCC next week. CCC continues to cosponsor the PSF weekly radio show, along with Cindy and Steve Elliott. In addition to receiving advertising for the program, CCC uses its monthly half-hour slot to bring mental health information to the local population.

2. Community Outreach and Radio Program: We agreed to continue to view the radio program along with the service CCC performs as our community outreach. Steve Elliott has made arrangements with Rev. Terri to record a couple of half-hour shows and we definitely expect to generate some local interest from those. There are also other guest speakers who may be interested in doing the same thing.

3. Guest speakers: We have a schedule of guest speakers that runs to the end of September. We had Rev. Hilde Brooks for the month of June, Rev. Theressa Shields for the month of July, four different speakers in August, and a favorite of ours, Rev. G. Michael Smith for the month of September. Most agree that it is very nice to have the opportunity to get acquainted with and hear a minister for a whole month, so that will be the goal for the following months of this year.

4. Current Status of PSF: During the summer months we have had quite a downturn in attendance. We agreed there were a number of reasons for this: Rev. David’s leaving, vacation schedules, illness of some members, the heat, and the less than desirable surroundings. We all would like to relocate to a place more befitting of our consciousness, and we believe this can be accomplished if we all keep our minds and hearts open to all possibilities as we vision for the perfect location for PSF. Kristi will do what she can to check out possibilities that come to her attention, but each and every one of us needs to help in the search. In the meantime, we agreed to step up our individual commitment to share in the myriad tasks required to have our Sunday service here at this location. We will make up a list of everything required and leave it in the storage cabinet with our things. This way new people can look at the list and just join in the process of setting up and putting away after service. There are four people who have keys and codes and we will stay in touch with each other when we are unable to attend to assure coverage. We also discussed the possibility of being just a study group and not a church, but it seemed unanimous that we want to stay a church at this point.

5. SAGE business meeting for August: Since CCC is now open on Thursdays, which was our monthly meeting day, we needed to find another day for our business meeting. Pat suggested we try to utilize Super Sunday, the last Sunday of the month, as our meeting day so that we could have more church involvement and greater attendance. Therefore, our next business meeting will be Sunday, August 27th, following our church service. P.S. it gives us a great excuse to have a bang-up potluck!

Judy St.Clair led us in a closing prayer and we adjourned the meeting at 1:45 p.m.
