Business Meeting Minutes
May 19, 2005

Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Fellowship
Organizational/Business Meeting
Thursday, May 19, 2005

Call to order: 6:45 p.m.

Present: Kristi Frodesen, Pat Alice, Carol Stevens, Eric Pearson, Cindy Elliott, Sue Wilkin, Chioma Alozie, Cheryl Colvin, Michelle Phears, and Rev. David Phears.

Visioning: Rev. David led us in an opening prayer of thanks and gratitude for our new facility and the strong stewardship for our church that we all share.

Approval of Minutes: Kristi Frodesen moved the minutes of the April 21st meeting be approved as they stand. Pat Alice seconded the motion and the motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Due to the proceeds from the sale of the piano and another very generous donation, the current balance in the PSF account, after the minister’s salary has been paid for May, is $2,924.47, $2,160.33 of which is from adult funds and $764.14 from the youth. Sue brought in two checks drawn against that amount tonight; one for $755 going to Oasis Charter Academy for our rent through December 31, 2005, and the other for $250 for a deposit for our August Casino Night. That leaves a balance in the adult account of $1,151.33.

Correspondence: Rev. David sent out two letters this month; the first was to the Apple Valley School District thanking them for allowing us to use the Mariana School for these past nine months, and the other one to Anthony and Marjorie Chambers thanking them for their offer of a place in which to hold our services.

Old Business:
1. Upcoming Move: A great deal of our discussion centered on our upcoming move to Oasis. We will need help in actually moving our things after May 29th, which is our last day at Mariana. We need to have our Angel Committee begin our phone tree, letting both members and friends know of our new address, the date of our move, and to join us in celebration on June 5th. Pat Alice will make up some maps of our new location. We intend to advertise on the radio show as well. We also have to let our insurance carrier know of the change since they will need to change the names of the additional insureds: Hesperia School District and Oasis to comply with our agreement. We intend to have a potluck and some special decorations to make the event more festive and lively.

2. Western Casino Night: We have set the date of Friday, August 19th at the Percy Bakker Center for our Western Casino Night from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. They are located in Hesperia on E Street near Main. The facility will furnish two crap tables, a wheel of fortune, a roulette wheel, and ten blackjack tables. They will supply the dealers for the crap tables and roulette wheel, but we will have to supply our own blackjack dealers. We are looking for 20 volunteers so that they only have to do it for two hours. Steve Elliott will DJ the event, and there is a bar and a dance floor. The facility charges $1,400 or 20 percent of the proceeds, whichever is less. We will be making up flyers, advertising on the radio show, and printing up 500 tickets @ $10. The ticket price includes $100 in chips to start the gamblers off, and we will be selling raffle tickets all night. You must be there to win. The raffle prizes will be the main draw and already we have commitments of trips and cruises and other wonderful prizes. This promises to be a huge success and tons of fun. Be there or be square!

3. Update on Counseling Center: Pat Alice informed us that the center had its first client on 5/18/05. The fee charged was $1 as well as $25 donation made to the church. Great job, Pat. More clients to come, I’m sure.

4. Community Outreach. Once again this month, we agreed to consider our sponsorship of the radio show as our community outreach. We were saddened to learn that Kids’ Repair will close its doors as of the end of May. We all know that the concept is valuable and we hold Lyn and Geraldo, as well as the children they served, in our prayers.

5. SAGE Meeting for June. Our May SAGE meeting was a viewing of the movie, “What the Bleep Do We Know?” held a Carol Stevens’ home. After a great potluck dinner, we showed the movie on the big screen TV, and then discussed it among those present. It was quite interesting and if there is sufficient interest, we’ll show it again in the future. We have decided to have our June SAGE event on Friday, June 17th, although time and place are uncertain at this point. We are considering another Texas Hold ’em poker night. Listen to the upcoming announcements for more news.

6. Rev. David’s Accomplishment Review. The contract renewal for Rev. David has been completed with all necessary revisions and signed by all.

7. Annual Meeting. The annual meeting was an enormous success. We reached our quorum and conducted our business very efficiently. Pat Alice went over all of our accomplishments to date and gave a little of our history. We concluded with a delicious potluck lunch.

8. Status Report – Youth Church: Cindy Elliott reported the status of our youth church is thriving and doing well. Even with the big age discrepancy we often have, our teachers do a wonderful job of finding activities they can do together. We are so grateful for these dedicated people.

New Business:

1. Guest Speakers. This month we had an old favorite come to visit on May 22nd, Rev. G. Michael Smith. Some of you may not have recognized him, since he’s lost 140 pounds. He absolutely lives what he preaches and teaches. If you missed it, the tape is available.

Our meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. with a closing prayer by Rev. David.

Respectfully submitted by Carol Stevens
