October 20, 2005
Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Fellowship
Organizational/Business Meeting
Thursday, October 20, 2005
Call to order: 7:00 p.m.
Present: Pat Alice, Carol Stevens, Donna Mass, Sue Wilkin, Kristi Frodesen, Michelle Phears and Cheryl Colvin.
Opening Prayer: Kristi Frodesen led us in an opening prayer to begin our meeting.
Approval of Minutes: Cheryl Colvin moved to approve the minutes of the September 15th meeting as they stand. Michelle Phears seconded the motion, and the motion passed.
Treasurers Report: The balance in the PSF account is $1,325.68, which is made up of $264.98 from adult donations and $1,060.70 from youth. The ministers salary has been paid through October. The radio program is paid up through August and payment is due for September. The rent is paid through December 2005. In January we would like to be able to pay six months in advance, as we did before.
Correspondence: There was one piece of highly anticipated correspondence, which was our IRS acknowledgement letter stating that we are now a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Many thanks to the hard work of Pat Alice and Chioma Alozie.
Old Business:
1. Funds approval for camp training: There is an upcoming seminar for advisors of youth camp that costs $90. Rev. David expressed an interest in attending this camp, which would mean he would go to the camp as well. Eric Pearson emailed the group his suggestion that we approve the funds, Donna Mass so moved, Kristi Frodesen seconded the motion, and it passed.
2. Casino Night 2006: After much discussion about how we intend to improve on our successful western casino night, we reached a consensus for the new date: St. Patricks Day, March 17, 2006. That will be our theme, and we intend to have many specific committee categories and will need the participation of everyone to make it a successful event. We will have sign-up sheets for each category, so be thinking about the area that youd like to share your talents and energy in and sign up.
3. Counseling Center: The Counseling Center is treating clients on a weekly basis at the Oasis facility and each week they get more calls. They are in the process of seeking grant funding to enable it to expand their service availability and reach out to the community by way of advertising.
4. Community Outreach: We will consider the payment of the Radio Show as well as our funding of the camp seminar as our monthly community outreach.
5. SAGE Meeting for October: We had another poker night on October 21 at Cheryl and Pats house at 6:30 p.m.
6. SAGE meeting for November: Our SAGE meetings are usually the third Friday of the month, and since November is time for thanksgiving, we decided to combine a few things into one event this month: a really good potluck, a visioning, and socializing with one another. We will do this on Sunday, November 20, right after service. We will enlist our Angel Committee to call all those we havent seen for a while and anticipate having a big turnout.
7. Status Report Youth: Clown Sunday on October 2nd was a very heart-warming event. Our three dedicated teachers had the monumental task of teaching the various ages of children to mime the story as the parables were read, and at the same time, letting them express themselves in whatever way came to them. We all laughed and enjoyed the outcome immensely.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Groups and Classes: Rev. Davids October class was cancelled. There will be a book study of Eckhart Tolles new work, A New Earth, starting on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 10:00 a.m. at the home of Carol Stevens. Call 245-6972 if you are interested in attending.
2. Music Update: We greatly enjoyed the singing at church a couple of weeks ago, Michelle Phears, Eric and Leandra Pearson, Cindy and Steve Elliott and Caroline Coleman. This led us to consider how nice it would be if a few members with a desire to share their talents might volunteer to work together to lead us in song each Sunday. We have to start somewhere so if you are one who has ever thought about it, let Eric know.
3. Blessing the Basket: As you know, it is our practice during announcements to refer to the donation basket at the back of the room, but not to pass it during service. Many of us would like to add a blessing of abundance to our service to acknowledge our awareness that God is our source of supply.
4. Christmas Service: We are considering Friday, December 23, 2005, for our Christmas Service, since it falls on Sunday this year. We were given approval to use the facility for that purpose so we will get the word out as to the time.
Our meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. with a closing prayer by Michelle Phears.
