Business Meeting Minutes

Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Fellowship

Organizational/Business Meeting

Sunday, October 29, 2006

Call to order: 12:40 p.m.

Present: Sue Wilkin, Cindy and Steve Elliott, Pat Alice, Carol Stevens, Harriet Baker, Cheryl Colvin, Yolande Culbreth, Eric and Leandra Pearson, Caroline Coleman, Sally Harris, Judy St. Clair, and Stephanie Nelson.

Opening Prayer: Judy St.Clair led us in an opening prayer to raise our consciousness for the meeting to follow.

Approval of minutes: With the addition of the name of Caroline Coleman, and changing a comma to a period in the amount of restricted funds, Judy St. Clair moved to accept the minutes for the September 24th meeting as corrected. Cindy Elliott seconded the motion, and it passed.

Treasurer’s report: The total balance in the Ponderosa SAGE Fellowship accounts is $9,011.04 made up of $7,473.79 in the adult account, $1,196.63 in the account restricted for our new church home, and $1,537.25 in the youth account. The radio program has been paid through September. The remaining balance in the Community Counseling Center account from the grant proceeds is $15,171.16.

Correspondence: No correspondence this month

Old Business:

1. CCC Update: The new website address is www.highdesertccc.org. All available counseling spots are filled with a waiting list of only 3 or 4 people who are waiting for a specific type of therapy. There are three interns waiting to join the program. CCC is presently treating 45 people either in a group setting or in individual sessions. The following specific groups are currently active: small children, teen, men, women, and Spanish Speakers. The question was raised if CCC intends to add an additional day for its services. There are no plans to do so at this point until they receive more funding. HDDVP encourages some of its clients to seek counseling at the center. The women’s and men’s groups are open to anyone. Just call Pat and she will coordinate the best spot for you. Approximately once every six weeks the Daily Press runs an ad for CCC, after which they receive many new calls for service.

2. Community Outreach and Radio Program: CCC is currently paying one half of the cost for the radio program. As in the past, we have agreed to continue to view this as our community outreach service. Steve Elliott has interviewed some of our guest speakers on the program and will continue to utilize them on the radio show when available

3. Guest speakers: Jay D. Allen was our guest speaker for October 29th. We have Rev. Paul Braden scheduled for November 4th and Rev. Hilde Brooks for the rest of November and Rev. Terry Shields as our guest speaker for the month of December.

4. Self Evaluation of PSF: We spent a great deal of time discussing this topic. Our church attendance remains below 20 each Sunday. Many people believe this is reflective of the dismal location. Also, there is quite a bit or work to set up for service each week, which has fallen on only of few to do. After church many people stay to assist in the teardown. In an effort to spread the load more evenly, Pat suggested a group sign up to do a month at a time. This met with unanimous agreement, and Stephanie Nelson, Steve and Cindy Elliott will take the month of November. Tackling the low attendance issue, we discussed having a committee devoted to marketing and advertising our guest speakers to bring in more interested people. Stephanie moved to have Eric, Carol and Cindy collaborate on that task. Sue seconded it with agreement by all. We then moved on to the location issue. With ample funds on hand, we believe now is a good time to earnestly seek a place of our own. Judy St. Clair has some experience in this arena, and she and Steve Elliott will check the local area for possible places to rent and/or buy.

5. Affirmation/Acronym for 2007: We reviewed the two slogans offered last month for use as our 2007 slogan and decided on the following: I experience HEAVEN in 2007, and the acronym would be Having Enthusiasm Abundance Vitality and Energy Now.

6. Monthly SAGE Activity: Last month we announced a poker night and potluck activity for Saturday, October 28, 2006, here at this location. Even though people said they were interested in coming, no one did. We have decided to suspend any further non-Sunday activities until such time as we can engender more interest. As for November, we will combine our Thanksgiving celebration with Super Sunday, on November 26, 2006, the last Sunday of the month, to have a potluck and our business meeting.

7. Business Meeting for November will be the 26th after service.

Judy St. Clair led us in a closing prayer and we adjourned the meeting at 1:20 p.m.
