PONDEROSA S.A.G.E. FELLOWSHIP

February 2005

Our first Year Anniversary Party was a huge success. We sent out invitations and had a larger congregation than we normally do, after which we enjoyed a great potluck luncheon. We danced and took pictures and just celebrated the accomplishment of our church fellowship being together for a whole year. Part of what makes us so special is the high level of participation of our members in all of our activities. Let’s keep it up!

Monthly Business Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Cheryl Colvin and Pat Alice on Shenandoah in Apple Valley. This month it will be 2/17/05. This is a group of like-minded people who love this teaching and this particular church and who bring their talents, energy and love to do whatever it takes to see it prosper. The more the merrier, so come join us and add your unique assets to the mix.

Rev. David’s first book, "A Book Of Weeks 52 Gifts for Inner Transformation", had its kick-off book signing sponsored by Debbie Cannon at DAC Enterprises in Hesperia on Sunday, 1/30/05. Thanks to the beautiful invitations that were sent out to our church family and friends, the event was extremely well attended. Michelle organized this event, and invited us all outside to hear from Rev. David, after which he let loose three baskets of white doves. As I watched them fly away, I was struck by their beauty and the unison in which they flew. I was very moved as Rev. David spoke to all of us about what this successful culmination of his literary efforts has meant to him. “This is beyond my wildest expectations. God is always showing up in various ways when you walk in principle.” If you like what you hear on Sundays, you’ll love this book. Rev. David loves words and as we all know, has a way of using acronyms as teaching tools. This special gift enables him to encapsulate a Sunday lesson into a word or two for us to keep in memory and work with all week long. Debbie provided a lavish spread of food for those present, and everyone who purchased the book had the opportunity to have it personally signed by its author, our own Rev. David Phears. By the end of the afternoon, every single book was sold and we are now waiting for another publishing.

Kid’s Corner. Donna Mass, one of our youth teachers, gave me some feedback about what’s going on at our youth church. We have three enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, Donna Mass, Cheryl Colvin and Cindy Elliott. Donna says that while they have a lesson plan, they are very flexible and structure their lessons according to the number and the ages of the kids attending that day. They often break into two groups, the very young ones and the teenagers. While they do have lessons from UCRS, they modify them to suit the needs of our young people. They take a letter of the alphabet each week and attach it to a virtue or to an activity. The older youth are working on their behavior, taking responsibility for self and seeing how that affects others around them. We are very grateful to these teachers for helping to lay the foundation for our children of the principles we practice.

T-Shirt Day – Super Sunday. Did you happen to notice a lot of people walking around with blue T-shirts on last Sunday? The reason is we have decided to combine Super Sunday, the day we bring in our recyclables to Eric, with the wearing of our logo T-shirts. January 30th was the first time we tried this and many people really got into it. Many times I have purchased T-shirts for one reason or another and rarely get to wear them. This gives us an opportunity to support the fundraiser and get some use out of them. Cheryl Colvin still has many sizes left so check with her on Sunday to get yours. Children sizes $11; adult sizes $16.

Church Cookbook - We need your recipes. I will be working with Cindy Elliott to put together a cookbook for a fundraiser later this year that reflects our great cooks and the way we love to eat. Bring me your best recipes and I will compile them into a handy, useable form. This should be great fun.

Three week Pre-fast Process – Next month Rev. David will be gathering around him all those interested in this idea. As we choose to thrive in 2005, we actually have to do something. The purpose of this endeavor is to support each other as we exclude certain kinds of food while we move toward a place of clarity in mind, body and spirit. The goal is to arrive at a place of balance and clarity.

What we offer
It occurred to me that many of you might know all that we already offer as a church. I thought I’d list it just for your edification:

* Prayer Box – Please remember to look for the colorful square box on the back table if you have the need or desire to have Rev. David pray for you. The information slips of paper are inside.
* Tapes – We have copies of previous Sunday services available on the table for a love offering.
* Science of Mind Magazines – We have a number of past issues of the magazine available on the counter for anyone who wishes to take them.
* Personalized coffee mugs – You will see these sitting along the edge of the counter. See Carol if you would like one with your name - $5.
* Our slogan logo T-shirts – As we mentioned, these are available each week. Interested? See Cheryl.
* Angel Volunteers – Although this hasn’t officially gotten off the ground yet, there are several people who can be called upon to make house calls or phone calls for any of our partners who need or desire it. See Pat or Eric if you would be interested in being an Angel or if you know someone that would like to be contacted.
* Recycle Sunday – The last Sunday of the month we bring in our CRV recyclables to Eric Pearson to take in to support our youth church.
Food donations to Kids Repair - We offer an ongoing opportunity to assist this organization by bringing in non-perishable goods for the kids sponsored there.

It is our sincere desire to be responsive to our fellowship in whatever way we can. If you have any ideas or thoughts of how better to accomplish this, be sure to tell us. You can write it and leave it anonymously in the prayer box, if you so desire.
