Hold onto your hats – we’re moving!
For the last couple of Sundays we have been announcing our need to find another place to hold our services. Many of our partners have been out beating the proverbial pavement in an effort to find a place that meets all of our needs:
Affordable rent
Ample space to grow our fellowship
Rooms for our youth to meet
A place to hold evening classes
Room to fellowship/eat after service
Convenient location
Plenty of parking

Through the power of Spirit working in us for the common good of our church family, we have found a place that meets all of the above-stated criteria. Our new church home will be located at 11988 Hesperia Road, which houses the Oasis Charter Academy by day. We will continue to meet at the Mariana School throughout the month of May and begin in our new facility the first Sunday in June. We are truly grateful for this demonstration of the abundance of God that is all around us.

First General Partnership Meeting 5/1/05. Directly after church service on Sunday, our fellowship met to discuss and vote on church business. We had a wonderful turnout and met our required quorum. Each person was given a meeting agenda, a copy of our bylaws, a financial report, and a brochure about our new Community Counseling Center. Pat Alice went over each of these documents in some detail and asked that we keep them for future reference and phone numbers. We then discussed our priorities and encouraged questions from everyone.

At this point the proposed bylaw change was brought up and discussed. Article 8.3 states: “A quorum of two-thirds of the voting Partnership is required to pass measures binding upon PSM.” Very often this creates a hardship to meet that number. After some discussion regarding the feasibility of a change, Eric Pearson moved to amend the bylaws to state: “A quorum of one half plus one of the voting Partnership is required to pass measures binding upon PSM.” Don Stewart seconded the motion. The motion was put before the Partnership and it passed.

Donna Mass then invited all those who are interested to join us at our next business meeting. We closed the meeting with a prayer at 12:35 p.m. and adjourned for a delicious potluck lunch.

April Guest Speakers. Once again, we were blessed to have two of our own fill in for Rev. David. On April 17th Delores Williams spoke to us on Being The Law of Attraction. I was truly inspired as she shared her own spiritual journey of how she used the principles of Science of Mind to rise from lack and limitation to the successful and dynamic person she is today. The assent from where she came to where she is today is truly remarkable.

The following week we had a real change of pace with Donna Mass. Many of you know that she is one of our youth teachers, but I’ll bet you didn’t know she had so many other talents. After sharing with us a little of her story, she led us in a fun-filled drum session. We closed by singing our peace song accompanied by drums and instruments. How blessed are we?

Update on Counseling Center. As reported last month, the opening of our counseling center is right around the corner. Listen for announcements each week.

Monthly Business Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Cheryl Colvin and Pat Alice on Shenandoah in Apple Valley. The upcoming meeting date is 5/19/05 and you are encouraged to be there to participate in the ongoing business of this church. Check out the information table for the latest minutes.

Monthly get-together. We have tentatively scheduled a movie night for Friday, 5/13/05. The title of the movie is “What the Bleep do I know?” and is very highly regarded by those who have seen it. We have yet to pick a site, so listen for the announcements as to time and place.

Rev. David’s first book, A Book Of Weeks 52 Gifts for Inner Transformation. I love the way Eric Pearson refers to the acronym for the week in his Sunday announcements. If you have yet to buy the book, please do so and begin to see how these tools can assist you each day.

T-Shirt Day – Super Sunday Don’t forget to wear your blue T-shirts on the last Sunday of each month and bring in your recyclables for Eric to turn in for cash for our youth. Cheryl Colvin still has many sizes left so check with her on Sunday to get yours. Children sizes $11; adult sizes $16.

Church Cookbook – I’m still looking for recipes. Just imagine how much fun it will be to look in a cookbook and know that you contributed one of your favorites to the mix. Just copy it down and stick it in your purse to give it to me on Sunday. My mouth is watering already!

What we offer:

Prayer Box – Look for the colorful square box on the back table if you would like to have Rev. David pray for you. The information slips of paper are inside.

Tapes – We have copies of previous Sunday services available on the table for a nominal love offering.

Science of Mind Magazines – We have a number of past issues of the magazine available on the counter for anyone who wishes to take them.

Personalized coffee mugs – You will see these sitting along the edge of the counter. See Carol if you would like one with your name - $5.

Angel Volunteers – We have people who can be called upon to make house calls or phone calls for any of our members who need or desire it. See Pat or Eric for a name.

Recycle Sunday – The last Sunday of the month we bring in our recyclables to Eric Pearson to take in to support our youth church.

Food donations to Kids Repair - Remember to bring in non-perishable goods for the kids at Kids Repair.

Pat Alice gave me this quote from the Dalai Lama:

“If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it’s not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.”
