November 2005

SPECIAL THANKSGIVING SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2005
Well, here it is November and the beginning of the holiday season. We all know that for some this can be a mixed bag of anticipation and dread. Thats why we want to kick off the season with a new tradition. One of the nicest things about being a relatively new church is that you are free to start new traditions. Wed like to do that this year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving right after service. We will have a special potluck luncheon, so bring something you really like to share with others. In addition to the always-good food, we will have a visioning about our church and the direction in which were being pulled. Also, lets be thinking about the concept of gratitude in general, as we all do at this time of year, and in particular, what your association with the Ponderosa SAGE has meant to you. If youd like to write something down on a card, we will share them during our feast.
Eckhart Tolle Group meetings started
On Wednesday, 11/2/05, at 10:00 a.m. we had our first Eckhart Tolle study group meeting at the home of Carol Stevens. We listened to the first of eight tapes of his new book, A New Earth, read by the author. We found the message riveting and powerful. We decided to meet the first and third Wednesday mornings to continue this study. If you think you might be interested, see Carol after service for directions. Our next meeting will be November 16th at 10:00 a.m.
Music Musings
As you all know, this area continues to be a challenge for us. We had a little taste of what it would be like to have a choir a few Sundays ago when six of our members (Michelle, Charoline, Steve, Cindy, Eric and Leandra) got together and surprised us with a song dedicated to Rev. David. These folks had a willingness to show their love through their vocal talents and we all enjoyed it. If any of you think you might be willing to be a part of something like that, please talk to Eric. This is a top priority for us and wed love to see our church grow in this way.
Update on Counseling Center.
As the number of clients seen by the counseling center increases, we are finding it necessary to seek an additional facility to accommodate them. We have a grant proposal under consideration at this time and we are contacting other community projects with whom we may be able to collaborate. If any of you know of a facility that we might be able to utilize in the evenings, please contact Patricia Alice.
Monthly Business Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Cheryl Colvin and Pat Alice on Shenandoah in Apple Valley. The upcoming meeting date is 11/17/05 and you are encouraged to be there to participate in the ongoing business of this church.
Monthly get-together. Due to the Thanks-giving Holiday, we decided to consider our Thanksgiving Sunday as our November get-together. That way, many more people will be able to enjoy the event.
Did you know?
I know that many of you heard the news in the announcements that we have received our official tax-exempt notification from the IRS. We all owe Patricia Alice a big pat on the back as she did all of the tedious paperwork involved to make this happen. We also utilized the expertise of Chioma Alozie to make sure everything was correct.
Upcoming Events:
Since Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year and many people will be at home with family and friends, we have decided to hold our holiday celebration on Friday the 23rd. Our service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Oasis facility. This is a perfect occasion to invite family and friends to join us for an uplifting, fun-filled, spiritual service.
Casino Night 2006:
We have selected St. Patricks Day, March 17, 2006, as the date for our 2006-casino night fundraiser. We will use The Luck of the Irish as our theme. We intend this to be a bigger and better version of the wonderful time we all had at our first Western Casino night in 2005. In order to make this happen, we need all of you to participate. You will be hearing more details in upcoming announcements. What we plan to do is organize the event into various committees so that every single person can participate as much or as little as they choose. Be thinking about what youd like to do to help out. Well break it into groups such as food, gaming, advertising, tickets, gift donations, etc. But, believe me, as you participate and become involved, you will have so much fun getting ready for this event and you will share in its success.
