What Does The Name
- Ponderosa S.A.G.E.
Fellowship -
Mean?

Shakespeare wrote in Romeo and Juliet “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” I'm not wanting to contradict the Bard but, you might want to ask yourself, had he titled his play Rex and Mildred, would it have gained enough attention to draw people to the theatre? In our case, our name says a lot and it is quite interesting how it came about and what it means. Just saying our name draws you into wanting to know more and join our services every Sunday.
The name of our Fellowship came about in several ways. S.A.G.E. is an acronym. It was originally, Spiritual Attainment Growth and Enhancement and we now use Awareness. This title identified a Discussion, Study and Fellowship Group that was being organized to share ideas, literature, friendship, prayer, etc. The first meeting of this group was on January 15, 2004 and brought together many people from many areas of our community. Most of these people had also just held a Sunday service only four days before and were very interested in forming a church.
So the church and the Fellowship group grew together. The S.A.G.E. Fellowship was a direct descendent of the S.A.G.E. Ministry. Like minded people drawn together to share a wealth of ideas to further Spiritual education and practice.
The word Ponderosa was added to the title to help people find our little church. Perfect Order was in place when the church was looking for a place to meet. Carmon’s Ponderosa Restaurant in Apple Valley allowed us to use their restaurant area to meet for services every Sunday morning. So we were announcing that the “S.A.G.E. Ministry meets in the Ponderosa Restaurant” and then gave directions. In the meantime the S.A.G.E. Fellowship meetings were going on twice a month at a private residence.
At one of the Fellowship meetings it was suggested that we call our church the “Ponderosa S.A.G.E. Ministry” and the name stuck! Using Ponderosa in the name helped people find us on Sunday morning. It's comfortable to say. And when you say it you are in essence, saying an affirmation. "As we become more AWARE of our SPIRITUALITY we GROW stronger in living our life, we recognize the SPIRIT within others and our life is ENHANCED."
